Studio Krucker Bates

This Studio, developed as a collaboration of two international architects, Bruno Krucker and Stephen Bates, explores themes of urbanism and housing in the European city and beyond. Both Professors teach together, developing a studio environment of discussion and investigation. They are actively involved in the progress of the design and research of each student in the studio and are supported by well-qualified teaching assistants.

Studio Krucker Bates address architectural ideas through the design project which is explored through a number of interrelated themes. Architectural convention and preconceived methodologies are challenged, historical and everyday reference readily used and encouragement given to a way of designing spatially and without linearity.

The studio considers the complex ways in which the city can engender dignity on the part of the user and anticipates the consequences of design decisions in terms of an emotive response. An engagement with this complexity in the making of buildings, interiors and urban spaces is combined with a rigorous and conceptual approach to construction.

Through coordinated design projects Studio Krucker Bates seeks to provoke a questioning and enquiry into the art of inhabitation.
