Urban Habitat & Munich Plan
Urban Habitat & Munich Plan is a research programme which examines the urban structuring of the city of Munich. Investigation and survey address the important role the ground floor zone plays as the link between urban space and building within the urban structure. The programme takes the form of an on-going survey to draw a coherent plan of central Munich. As in the figure ground drawing of the Nolli Plan for Rome or Aldo Rossis plan of Zurich, the structure and evolution of the city lies at the centre of the study.
Each semester students examine two areas of the city. Existing data is retrieved, site investigations made and survey drawings are made to given guidelines. Identified each semester. Significant emphasis is placed on the graphic representation of the phenomena under observation and their analysis. The art of drawing is therefore central to this study.
